Free Online Menu Planning & Recipe Database

The School Nutrition Association (formerly the American School Food Service Association) announced a four year agreement with School-Link Technologies to enhance the interactive Recipe Database - providing school nutrition professionals and families with new tools to prepare nutritious meals. This support will allow the School Nutrition Association (SNA) to enhance the Recipe Database by making recipe formats more closely aligned with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) format; including both weights and measures as well as other enhancements.

The online database of recipes features family-sized and quantity-sized recipes from USDA and from the School Foodservice and Nutrition magazine. The Recipe Database currently lists more than 250 recipes and allows users to submit recipes for inclusion in the database. The Database can be accessed by clicking on the “Recipes” link on the left side of the page.

In addition to the Recipe Database sponsorship, School-Link Technologies has also created a free Menu Planning website for SNA members where users can create menus then analyze nutrients, scale recipes, and print preproduction worksheets. The Menu Planning site is powered by software that has been approved by USDA for Nutrient Standard Menu Planning.

Electronic menu planning can serve as the core for seamlessly integrating all back office functions including purchasing, inventory and point of sale operations using industry standards, “We are pleased to provide support for this SNA member benefit and hope that it serves as an useful and easy-to-use tool to improve program operations and accountability,” says Chip Goodman, CEO of School-Link Technologies.

To register for the free service, visit  http://sna.schoollinktechnologies.com.  The site is fully backed by a support structure to aid new users.

SL-Tech’s vision is to empower school administrators with systems that seamlessly link electronic access for cafeteria, library, transportation, and student systems using industry-accepted standards. The School Nutrition Association (formerly ASFSA) is a national, non-profit professional organization representing more than 55,000 members who provide high-quality, low-cost meals to students across the country. The Association and its members are dedicated to feeding children safe and nutritious meals. Founded in 1946, SNA is the only association devoted exclusively to protecting and enhancing children’s health and well being through school meals and sound nutrition education.
